ISM is organised into overlapping departments under the direct control of the chief executive, the General Manager. Each has a head of department responsible for the performance of their teams and for ensuring smooth liaison with, and information flow to, all other departments.

The organisation and its functions are monitored by the ISM system compliance officer who reports directly to the Owning Principal.

The Company's forward planning, goal setting, divisions of responsibility and performance self-evaluation are the subjects of regular interdepartmental scheduled meetings, attended by department heads and chaired by the GM, with selected company officers invited to attend and contribute. In addition to the scheduled meetings ISM encourages impromptu informal discussions during and outside working hours.
